Loreen’s struggle for the Azeri people
So she wants to improve the situation in Baku
In a schedule full of rehearsals and interviews, Loreen finds a place to work with human rights. This is what her days in Baku look like.
Now the Eurovision journey begins in earnest for Loreen. On Tuesday, 20 people from the Swedish delegation will fly down to Baku – another number will join during the week.
But despite the long stay, there is not much time to rest. For Loreen, a busy schedule awaits, where many hours are spent rehearsing and meeting Swedish and foreign journalists and fans. The strong favorite that lies on the singer further increases the pressure – but Loreen does her best to disconnect all external pressure.
– I haven’t linked how big this is or what it means, but it also means that I keep a better focus. I choose not to think about how many people are watching, she says.
Want to create awareness
In addition to the mandatory activities, Loreen has a completely different thing on her agenda – during her weeks in Baku, she wants to pull her weight to improve human rights. Already at home in Sweden, the singer has read about the situation in Azerbaijan and met the embassy and various organizations. Now practical work awaits on site in the country.
– Some people think that the competition should be boycotted, but I think it’s the wrong tactic. You have to step in and act, show that you are aware and talk about it. I want to do something by illuminating and creating an awareness among the people. I will talk about it, visit the organization Woman to Woman, visit a refugee camp and meet people who live in the country, says Loreen.
